The policy tells you who we are, how we collect information about you, what we use it for, with whom we may share it, what rights you have and whether your information may be transferred outside the European Economic Area (‘EEA’).

Note that if you follow a link from our site to another site, this policy will no longer apply. We are not responsible for the information handling practices of third party sites and we encourage you to read the privacy policies appearing on those sites.
We will from time to time update and make changes to this policy. We recommend that you revisit this privacy policy frequently, and ideally each time you visit our site. Any changes will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, notified to you by email.

How we collect information
We will collect personal information which you submit via our site for example when you register with us, complete online forms or use any message boards or other interactive areas.
We may receive information about you from our education providers (such as further education colleges or training companies) for example if they enrol you on a course or update your details.
We may collect information about you if you contact us offline, for example by telephone, fax, email or post.
We keep a record of traffic data and site statistics about the use of our site, but we are not readily able to identify individuals from this information.
We also use cookies.

Consent
We need to obtain your consent to use cookies, unless they’re strictly necessary for us to provide you with a service that you explicitly request. For example, when you log in to work through a course, there is no way, other than by using cookies, we can keep a record of what pages you have looked at and to allow you to go back and forwards through your answers.
There are a number of ways to give us your consent:
- You can give us implied consent by reading this policy and proceeding to use the site; so if you register with us or if you continue to use our site, you will agree to our use of cookies.
- You can use appropriate browser settings.
- You can use third party tools to control Flash and Google Analytic cookies.
How to turn cookies on and off using browser settings
Most browsers are automatically set to accept cookies but if you are using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Apple’s Safari or Google Chrome, you should be able to configure your browser to restrict cookies or block all cookies if you wish. If you disable cookies you should still be able to login and use any secure areas of our site. However, you may find you need to re-enter your user details.
Adjusting cookie settings on a web browser is not very easy at the moment but the Government has promised that browser manufacturers will be making these settings more user-friendly, so they comply with new laws which came into force in May 2011. How to turn cookies on and off using third party tools
- We use Flash cookies with our media files. You can see and remove those by going to Adobe’s site at: www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html
- We also use Google Analytics which uses analytic cookies in combination with certain code. You can stop being tracked by Google Analytics across all websites by going to Google's site at: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Here’s some more information about the different types of cookies we use.
Flash cookies
If you watch a video file or listen to an audio file on our website you will be using Adobe Flash. That will store another type of cookie on your computer called a Local Shared Object or Flash cookie. It allows us to count the total number of times each file is played, how many people watch videos right to the end and how many people give up half way through. You can’t use your normal browser to remove Flash cookies but Adobe’s website explains how to do that.
Analytic cookies
Google Analytics is a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website (see www.google.com/intl/en_uk/analytics). You can opt out by going to the Google website.
Google Analytics uses persistent cookies in conjunction with its own Google code to track data.
- Google code
The Google code is called a “page tag”, referred to as the Google Analytics Tracking Code (GATC). It is a hidden snippet of JavaScript code that we add to each page of the site. The Google Analytics’ code is incorporated into each page of our site’s code so that our site serves the cookies, but Google has access to the cookies.
- Google cookies
The Google cookies do not collect any personally identifiable information and are only used for the statistical collection of data such as visits and page hits. They store IP addresses but we cannot link those addresses to any individual or path through the website.
Google uses the cookies with its code to read information and evaluate visitors’ use of the website in the form of statistical reports that we can access.

Session cookies
We use session cookies, also called transient cookies, to identify and track users who enter any registered areas of our site. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. The session cookie is stored in temporary memory and is not retained after the browser is closed. Session cookies do not collect information from your computer. Typically, they will store information in the form of a session identification that does not personally identify you.
Web beacon
Also called a web bug or a pixel tag or a clear GIF. A web beacon is an often-transparent graphic image, usually no larger than 1 pixel × 1 pixel, which is placed on a web site and/or in an HTML email that is used to monitor your behaviour when you visit our site or receive an HTML email from us.
We may use web beacons in automated emails from news from vision2learn to determine when they were opened (including by people to whom you forward the email) and to record whether a message was acted on. This helps us assess the effectiveness of our service communications. We will not know if you open an email if you do not download images when viewing one of our HTML emails, or if you choose to receive emails from us in plain text.
You cannot opt out of or refuse web beacons. However, where they are used in conjunction with cookies you can stop them by opting out of cookies – see the IAB website www.youronlinechoices.com
What we use your information for
We will use your information to provide you with any further details, information, products or services you request. This will include us sending you emails to update you about service matters.
We will use your information for administrative purposes in connection with any course you are studying or wish to study. For example, we may use it to assist you to enrol on a course or to contact you with information, updates and newsletters relevant to your course.
If you agree when you register with us or contact us we will use your information for marketing purposes by the methods you indicate are acceptable; this might include for example, the latest news from vision2learn.
We may also use your information ensure that content from our site is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer, for internal administration and analysis, to allow you to participate in any interactive features of our service, when you choose to do so and to notify you about changes to our service.
With whom we may share your information
We will not share your information with any other organisation except in the following circumstances:
- We will disclose your information to our education providers (such as further education colleges or training companies) if you register to use a course. When you register to use a course, you will be informed which of our education providers is responsible for the delivery of your course. They will use your information for administrative purposes and so they can provide you with tutor support, guidance and arrange funding for your course. For further information about how they will use your information please contact the relevant education provider.
- We may share your information with our group companies (including vision2learn Limited) to the extent that they are involved in the delivery of any information or services you have requested. A group company means a subsidiary, ultimate holding company and its subsidiaries, as defined in section 1159 of the UK Companies Act 2006.
- We may allow third party providers and contractors who supply services to us or who process information on our behalf incidental access to your information. We will ensure that they keep your information secure and do not use it for their own purposes.
- We may share your information with another organisation which buys our company or our assets or to whom we transfer our agreement with you and in the course of any negotiations which may or may not lead to such a transfer or sale.
- We will disclose your information to our advisers so we can take advice and to regulatory or enforcement authorities if asked to do so, or to a third party in the context of actual or threatened legal proceedings.
Your rights
You have the right to see any information we hold about you on payment of a statutory fee, which is currently £10.
You have the right to rectify any errors in information we hold about you and to change or correct any details you have already given us. Please inform us about changes to your details so that we can keep our records accurate and up to date.
You have the right to opt out of receiving any marketing material from us at any time.

Security of information
We will keep your information secure by taking appropriate technical and organisational measures against its unauthorised or unlawful processing and against its accidental loss, destruction or damage.
Transfers outside the EEA
We will not transfer your information outside the EEA unless you are based outside the EEA or ask us to do so. The EEA comprises certain countries within Europe (including the EU) which have similar laws on data protection. Other countries outside the EEA may not give the same level of protection to your information.
